Best deer feeder for every situation
Ranked purely on score, one feeder wins — but your land, herd size and pest pressure change what “best” actually means. So below, the same 16 feeders from our rankings are re-sorted by situation: every pick links to its full review on this page, where you will find the specs, owner reports and the reasoning behind its score.
Best for small properties, thick cover and backyard watching: Moultrie 30 lb All-in-One Hanging
Our rankings call this the best hanging feeder for thick cover, steep ground and backyard watching. It hangs from a limb and is running in minutes, the collapsible hopper packs flat for the walk in, and it uses the same subscription-free Bluetooth timer as our top pick — and at 30 lb it is cheap enough to run several small stations instead of one big one.
Best for large herds and ranch-scale feeding: All Seasons Feeders 600 lb EZ Broadcast
The biggest hopper in our rankings at 600 lb, filled standing on the ground. Unusually for this class, the 12V battery and solar panel are already in the box, and the powder-coated, galvanized metal body is built varmint- and hog-resistant, while the QuadCast plate throws an even 40-foot spread.
Best on a tight budget: Wildgame Innovations Treehugger 100 lb
The cheapest way to start feeding in our rankings: a PVC bag that straps to a tree in under five minutes and holds up to 100 lb of corn, pellets or mixes. It weighs about 2 lb empty, the roll-top lid keeps rain out, and there is no motor or battery to fail — just note the owner warning that a bag will not survive black bear country.
Best for beginners and the easiest setup: Wildgame Innovations Quick-Set 225 lb
The riveted leg kit goes together in about 15 minutes, and at roughly 37 lb empty one person can set the whole feeder up. The timer is basic — four feed times at fixed 5, 10, 15 or 20 second runs — which is all most hunters ever use and hard to mis-program, so you get a full 225 lb hopper with no app menus to learn.
Best premium feeder: Boss Buck Stand & Fill 300
Our premium pick is a powder-coated steel hopper on a towable sled that you fill at standing height — no ladder, no tailgate balancing act. The solar panel is included, the timer offers two quick-set programs or 16 custom slots with jam and reverse-polarity protection, and the steel lid has two lockable latches; tow-hook and anchor holes let you drag it to a new spot with an ATV and keep it there.
Best for raccoon and hog country: Wildgame Innovations Quick-Set Pro 270 lb
It is the only Quick-Set model that ships with a rigid varmint guard protecting both the spinner and the power control unit — exactly where raccoons do their damage — and buyers say the cage stops small varmints from spinning the thrower. Square powder-coated legs are steadier than round ones, and Wildgame rates the throw at about 50 feet in a full circle.
Best gravity feeder (no batteries, no electronics): Boss Buck 200 lb All-In Gravity
There is nothing electronic to fail: three ports angled at 10 degrees, each with a 1-inch overhang and a drain hole, keep pellets dry, and an internal cone feeds all three ports evenly. A 3-way inner sleeve throttles flow for different pellet sizes, the roto-molded HDPE hopper will not rust, and the feeder converts to a timed spinner later if you change your mind.
Best for protein feeding programs: Boss Buck 350 lb Gravity Protein Feeder
Built for free-choice protein: 350 lb of corn or 250–300 lb of protein pellets, with the longest refill interval of any gravity feeder in our rankings. It shares the 200’s three-port head, internal cone and flow-adjusting sleeve in a thick-wall HDPE hopper — and as one Texas hunter in our review does, you can run protein free-choice in spring, then bolt on the 12V spinner kit for fall corn.
Best hanging feeder for chew-prone woods: American Hunter 50 lb Hanging (R-50PROAP)
Where squirrels and raccoons chew plastic, this hanging feeder’s 50 lb steel hopper resists chewing better, and a built-in varmint guard protects the spinner. The E-Kit photocell timer feeds at dawn and again 6 to 12 hours later, with each run adjustable from 1 to 30 seconds, and it comes pre-wired for a solar panel and a varmint-shock accessory.
Best for hog and cattle country (tip-proof): Capsule Game Feeders OPI 400 lb
The only auger-fed feeder in our rankings sits on the ground, and its low center of gravity means hogs and cattle cannot tip it. The gate stays closed between feedings, so feed is not exposed to weather or varmints, and the programmable timer runs up to 6 feedings a day — with the 12V battery and solar panel included, metering out corn, protein pellets, or a mix of both.
Best for remote land you rarely visit: Texas Hunter TF300L4 Stand & Fill 300 lb
For stations you cannot check often: 300 lb of capacity, the 12V battery included, and an EZ Set timer that keeps its settings even if the battery is disconnected. The compartment locks, a sight glass shows the feed level without opening it, and the timer carries a 5-year warranty; it is also pre-wired for the optional SP12 solar panel.
Best for maximum feeding control: Moultrie Pro Hunter III 250 lb
Ten feed times a day, run times from 1 to 60 seconds and adjustable throw make this the most flexible tripod timer in our rankings. Through the app you can sync schedules to sunrise and sunset, set different days and run it on demand — and pair it with an EDGE 3 camera and you can trigger a feeding from anywhere over cellular; our best cellular trail camera guide covers which cameras pair best with a feeder. A directional variant also suits trails and ponds.
Best for wet weather (feed stays dry): Banks Outdoors Feedbank 300
Gravity feeding fails when rain reaches the feed — the Feedbank 300 is built against exactly that: adjustable ports sit under a rain shield at about 42 inches, the 300 lb hopper closes with a watertight cover, and owners report the cover genuinely keeps feed fresh. It mounts on a single 4×4 post (antler-safe, nothing for a buck to bang his rack on), fills from the ground and has zero electronics to fail.

The 16 best deer feeders of 2026, reviewed
These are the best deer feeders we found for American hunters in 2026. Each review tells you who the feeder is for, what the spec sheet actually says, what owners complain about after a season, and who should skip it. We would rather lose a sale than send you home with the wrong feeder.
1. Moultrie 200 lb Deer Feeder Standard (Bluetooth) — best deer feeder overall
Why it wins: The included All-In-One II kit connects to the free Moultrie app over Bluetooth, so you can change feed times from your truck instead of walking up and leaving scent at the station. Moultrie also lists sunrise/sunset-synced schedules, different schedules for different days, estimated feed levels and run-on-demand in the app, with no subscription. It runs a whole season on 8 AA batteries, so there is no 6V battery or charger to buy.
- Capacity200 lb
- Feed timesUp to 4/day, 1–20 s each
- ControlKeypad + Bluetooth app
- Power4 AA, or 8 AA for full season
- Fill height5.5 ft

Skip it if: hogs or raccoons hammer your property (pick the Quick-Set Pro) or you want more than four feedings a day (pick the Pro Hunter III).

2. Moultrie Pro Hunter III 250 lb Deer Feeder
Why it wins: The Pro Hunter III kit redesign added a hinged door and a backlit screen, so testing and programming in the field is far less fiddly than the old Pro Hunter II. Through the app you can sync to sunrise/sunset, set different days, check estimated feed level and run it on demand. Pair it with an EDGE 3 camera and you can trigger feed and see battery level from anywhere over cellular.
- Capacity250 lb
- Feed timesUp to 10/day, 1–60 s each
- ControlKeypad + Bluetooth app
- Power6V tab-top battery (sold separately), solar-ready

3. Boss Buck Stand & Fill Sled Feeder (300 lb or 600 lb)
Why it wins: No ladder, no tailgate balancing act — you pour feed in at standing height. The sled has tow-hook holes so you can drag it to a new spot with an ATV, and anchor holes to keep it there. The timer offers two quick-set programs or 16 custom slots, day-of-week scheduling, and both jam and reverse-polarity protection. A feed window shows the level without opening the lid, and the steel lid has two lockable latches.

Skip it if: you hunt public land or walk-in spots — it’s built for semi-permanent stations you can drive to.
4. Wildgame Innovations Quick-Set Pro 270 lb
Why it wins: It’s the only Quick-Set model that ships with a rigid varmint guard protecting both the spinner and the power control unit — exactly where raccoons do their damage. Square powder-coated legs are steadier than round ones, and Wildgame rates the throw at 50 feet in a full circle versus about 30 feet on the standard Quick-Set.

5. All Seasons Feeders 600 lb EZ Broadcast — best ranch-scale feeder
Why it wins: Most big feeders nickel-and-dime you on power — this one includes it. The EZ digital timer sits under the lid with the battery, the QuadCast spinner plate throws an even 40-foot spread (about 1.5 lb of corn per 4 seconds), and the powder-coated, galvanized metal body is built varmint- and hog-resistant.

Skip it if: you manage a small property or a small budget — the Moultrie 200 covers most hunters for a fifth of the price.
6. Wildgame Innovations Quick-Set 225 lb
Why it’s here: A 30-gallon poly barrel holds 225 lb, a built-in funnel helps empty the barrel evenly, and the riveted leg kit goes together in about 15 minutes. At roughly 37 lb empty, one person can set it up. The timer is basic — four feed times, each 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds — which is all most hunters ever use.
- Capacity225 lb
- Feed times4/day; 5, 10, 15 or 20 s

Step-by-step Quick-Set 225 assembly by an owner.
7. Boss Buck 200 lb All-In Gravity Feeder
Why it wins: The head is designed to keep pellets dry: three ports angled at 10°, each with a 1-inch overhang and a drain hole. An internal cone feeds all three ports evenly, and a 3-way inner sleeve lets you throttle flow for different pellet sizes. The roto-molded HDPE hopper won’t rust, and the double-walled lid reduces condensation. Ports sit about 34 inches off the ground.

8. Banks Outdoors Feedbank 300 — best premium gravity feeder
Why it wins: The single 4×4 post mount is antler-safe — there is nothing for a buck to bang his rack on — and the adjustable ports sit under a rain shield at about 42 inches, so feed stays dry and flow stays controlled. You fill it from the ground, and there are zero electronics to fail.

9. Moultrie 30 lb All-in-One Hanging Feeder

11. Capsule Game Feeders OPI 400 lb — auger-fed, ground level
Why it’s different: No spinner plate and no gravity tubes — an auger meters out corn or protein pellets (they can be mixed) while the gate stays closed between feedings, so feed isn’t exposed to weather or varmints. The programmable timer runs up to 6 feedings a day.
- Capacity400 lb
- Feed timesUp to 6/day, digital timer
- Power12V battery + solar panel included
- BuildRoto-molded HDPE, ~4 ft tall

12. Boss Buck 350 lb Gravity Protein Feeder
Why it wins: Same proven head as our gravity pick — three 4-inch ports on a 10-degree angle with drain holes, an internal cone and a 3-way sleeve that meters flow by feed size — in a thick-wall HDPE hopper with a ventilated double-wall lid. A bolt-on 12V spinner kit turns it into a corn feeder when the season changes.

13. American Hunter 50 lb Hanging Feeder (R-50PROAP)
Why it’s here: The 50 lb steel hopper resists chewing better than plastic, the built-in varmint guard protects the spinner, and the “No Blow” slinger is designed to cut wind waste. The E-Kit photocell timer feeds at dawn and again 6 to 12 hours later, with each run adjustable from 1 to 30 seconds. It comes pre-wired for a solar panel and a varmint-shock accessory.

Deer feeder refill calculator
How long will a full feeder last? It depends on how much corn your spinner throws per second, and that varies by model, motor speed and battery charge. Measure it once: put a bucket over the spinner, run a 5-second test, weigh the corn and divide by 5.
How many days between refills?
The 0.25 lb/second default is only a starting estimate — replace it with your measured number. Gravity feeders don’t follow this math: deer, raccoons and hogs eat on their own schedule, so check those more often. More detail: how long deer feeder corn lasts.
How to choose the best deer feeder for your property
The best deer feeders share four traits: the right feed control for your goal, enough capacity for your visit schedule, protection from varmints and weather, and a power system you will actually maintain. Here is how to weigh each one.
Automatic vs. gravity vs. hanging deer feeders
| Automatic (spin) tripod | Gravity | Hanging (spin) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Patterning deer to shooting light, corn | Protein pellets, remote land | Thick cover, slopes, small budgets |
| Feed control | High — set times and amounts | None — eat any time | High |
| Maintenance | Battery, timer, motor | Very low | Battery, small hopper |
| Varmint pressure | Lower (feed only on schedule) | Highest | Medium |
| Typical capacity | 200–600 lb | 100–1,200 lb | 30–50 lb |
| Our pick | Moultrie 200 Standard | Boss Buck 200 | Moultrie 30 lb |
The best deer feeder for corn vs. protein
Corn is the classic attractant and spins well, so a timed spin feeder is the best deer feeder for corn. Protein pellets are a long-term nutrition tool; they’re usually fed free-choice from gravity or enclosed timed feeders, because pellets broadcast on wet ground spoil quickly. If protein is your goal, start with our best protein deer feeders guide; for corn-only setups see our corn feeder guide.
Capacity: size it to your visits, not your ambition
Every trip to refill leaves scent and noise. A bigger hopper means fewer trips, but corn sitting for months in a humid hopper can mold. A good rule: choose a capacity that lasts 2–4 weeks at your schedule, then check the calculator.
Timer and app features that actually matter
- Bluetooth app control lets you change times without walking to the feeder. Moultrie’s Bluetooth kits need no subscription; the cellular Feed Hub does require a Moultrie Mobile plan.
- Sunrise/sunset sync keeps feedings on time as days shorten, without reprogramming.
- Run time range — 1–60 seconds (Pro Hunter III) gives far finer control than fixed 5/10/15/20-second steps.
- Jam and reverse-polarity protection save motors and timers (Boss Buck Stand & Fill).

Placement beats brand
The best feeder in the wrong spot feeds raccoons. Put it near cover deer already use, downwind of your stand, at a distance you can shoot ethically, and where you can refill without walking through bedding areas. See where to place a deer feeder, how far from your stand and how high off the ground.
What wildlife research says about using the best deer feeders
1. Feed shifts deer toward night. One of the most consistent findings in the literature, going back to Ozoga and Verme’s work in 1982, is that supplemental food pushes deer from dawn-and-dusk movement toward more nighttime activity. That’s why timing your feeder to legal shooting light matters.
2. Mature bucks may not be at your corn pile. A Georgia DNR-funded camera study summarized by the National Deer Association found that corn feeders on a lightly hunted property mostly photographed yearling bucks and does at night, while the mature bucks were photographed at other sites. Use your feeder for inventory and patterning, not as your only stand location.
3. Enclosed timed feeders waste the least. Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute (Texas A&M–Kingsville) testing found an enclosed, controlled-time feeder delivered protein pellets to deer at roughly 90–95% efficiency, better than free-choice designs. The same bulletin notes deer will abandon a feeder to avoid feral pigs and javelinas, and that the labor of servicing feeders ends up costing more than the feeder itself.
4. Moldy corn is a real risk. Mississippi State University’s Deer Lab, working with the NDA, warns that aflatoxin can develop quickly in warm, humid conditions on corn left on the ground, and recommends cleaning feeders regularly. Texas A&M AgriLife’s Dr. John Tomecek has explained that condensation inside metal feeders can increase the risk.
Bottom line: run feed on a schedule, keep corn fresh and dry, clean the hopper between fills, and keep hogs out.
How to set up a new deer feeder: the 21-day plan
- Day 0 — Check the law. Confirm feeding and baiting are legal in your county this season (rules change, especially in CWD zones).
- Day 0 — Bench-test at home. Install a fully charged battery, run the test function, and time a 5-second spin into a bucket so you know your lb/second.
- Day 1 — Place it quietly. Midday, scent-controlled, on flat ground near cover. Level the legs and stake them if wind or hogs are a factor.
- Day 1 — Program the schedule. Start with two runs: about 30–60 minutes before sunrise and about 1–2 hours before sunset. Use sunrise/sunset sync if your timer has it.
- Day 1 — Hang a trail camera. Aim it at the spin plate so you see who’s eating and when, instead of walking in.
- Days 2–14 — Stay out. Check the camera remotely or swap cards only during midday. Deer need time to trust a new station.
- Day 14 — Adjust. Shift run times toward when your target deer actually show up. Add a varmint guard if raccoons appear.
- Day 21 — Hunt it. Only hunt with the wind in your favor, and refill on the same schedule every time.
7 mistakes that ruin even the best deer feeders
Is it legal to use a deer feeder where you hunt?
Even the best deer feeders are useless if feeding is banned where you hunt. Deer feeding and baiting laws are set by each state and sometimes by county, and they change mid-season when chronic wasting disease (CWD) is found. Examples of how fast this moves:
- Minnesota expanded its deer feeding and attractant ban to 37 counties in July 2026. Check the Minnesota DNR map.
- Wisconsin bans baiting and feeding in any county with a CWD-positive deer and in counties within 10 miles of one, and the ban lasts three years after the last detection.
- Michigan restricts baiting and feeding in CWD and bovine TB management areas; check the current DNR digest before you buy.
Before you order a feeder, check your state wildlife agency’s current hunting digest. We keep state explainers for Texas and Georgia.

How we picked the best deer feeders
We’re upfront about our process: we did not field-test all 16 feeders side by side. Many “tested” lists online can’t show that they did either. Instead, we built this list from evidence you can check:
- Manufacturer specifications from Moultrie, Wildgame Innovations, Boss Buck and American Hunter product pages and dealer spec sheets.
- Owner reports from retailer reviews (Walmart, Tractor Supply and others), focusing on problems that show up after weeks outdoors.
- Expert reviews from established hunting publications.
- Wildlife research from university deer labs and state agencies.
Only feeders currently sold in the U.S. with clear specs made our best deer feeders list. Scoring weights (out of 10): feed control 30% · capacity vs. refill effort 20% · durability & varmint resistance 20% · ease of setup/filling 15% · value 15%. Best deer feeders: frequently asked questions
What is the best deer feeder in 2026?
For most hunters, the Moultrie 200 lb Deer Feeder Standard. It combines a 200 lb hopper, 360° spread and subscription-free Bluetooth app control, and it runs on AA batteries. If you want more feed times, step up to the Moultrie Pro Hunter III; for remote land with no power, choose the Boss Buck 200 lb gravity feeder.
What type of deer feeder is best?
It depends on your goal. Timed spin feeders are best for drawing deer in at set times during hunting season. Gravity feeders are best for year-round protein and places you can’t visit often. Hanging feeders suit thick cover, slopes and tight budgets.
What is the best deer feeder for corn?
A timed spin (broadcast) feeder. It spreads corn on a schedule, so less sits on the ground to spoil or feed raccoons. The Moultrie 200 lb Standard and Wildgame Quick-Set 225 are our top corn picks.
How long will 200 lb of corn last in a deer feeder?
It depends on your spinner’s throw rate. At two 5-second feedings a day and about 0.25 lb per second, 200 lb lasts roughly 80 days. Measure your own feeder’s rate with a bucket test and use our refill calculator for an accurate answer.
Do deer feeders scare off mature bucks?
The feeder itself usually doesn’t; pressure does. Frequent visits, scent and noise make mature bucks shift to night. Research summarized by the National Deer Association found corn feeders photographed mostly young bucks and does at night, so use cameras, refill midday and keep visits to a minimum.
Do Bluetooth deer feeders need a subscription?
No. Moultrie’s Bluetooth kits, including the All-In-One II and Pro Hunter III, work with the free Moultrie app with no subscription. Cellular control through the Moultrie Feed Hub kit does require a Moultrie Mobile plan.
What battery does a deer feeder need?
Most traditional tripod feeders use a 6V battery that is sold separately, larger steel feeders often use 12V, and Moultrie’s All-In-One II kits run on 4–8 AA batteries. Gravity feeders need no power at all.
Should I get a gravity or a spinning deer feeder?
Choose spinning if you want control over when deer feed and less feed exposed to raccoons and hogs. Choose gravity if you want zero electronics, feed protein year-round, or can only visit every few weeks.
Is it legal to feed deer?
It depends on your state and often your county. Many states restrict or ban baiting and feeding, especially in chronic wasting disease zones, and those rules can change mid-season. Always check your state wildlife agency’s current regulations first.
Final verdict on the best deer feeders
If you want one feeder that does everything well, buy the Moultrie 200 lb Deer Feeder Standard — app control and AA power remove the two biggest headaches of owning a feeder. Want maximum scheduling? Get the Moultrie Pro Hunter III. Fighting raccoons on a budget? The Quick-Set Pro 270. Feeding protein on remote ground? The Boss Buck 200 Gravity. Just testing a spot? The Treehugger costs less than a tank of gas.
